At CU Phosco, our success is driven by the expertise and dedication of our team.
March 2025 marked the 1st anniversary for Ric Metcalfe in our Contract Services Division, based in Richmond, North Yorkshire.
Joining us in March 2024 as a Contracts Manager - North, Ric’s diverse career spans utilities, street lighting, and infrastructure, enabling him to bring a wealth of experience to our team.
From Operative to Contracts Manager – Ric’s Career Journey
Ric’s career started quite literally on the ground—laying water mains. But after a few years of working outdoors in all conditions, he decided a change was needed and transitioned to an office role within the energy sector.
After six years, Ric sought a fresh challenge and found his way into the lighting and signage industry, coordinating contracts and supporting project teams. Over the next decade, he was able to hone his skills in procurement and planning/supervising contracts.
Settling into CU Phosco – Learning, Growing, and Making an Impact
Ric’s first few months at CU Phosco were all about getting up to speed—visiting our factories, meeting the teams, and familiarising himself with our processes and products. While he had previous experience in street lighting, our high masts and floodlights were a new challenge.
With support from his colleagues—Victoria, Andy, Dino, Bob, Stuart, and Sandie—Ric has quickly found his feet within the Contract Services Division. Over time, he has taken on responsibility for Northern maintenance contracts and began overseeing installations, embracing CU Phosco’s fast-paced, collaborative environment.
"It’s a great team in Services with a real ‘in it together’ attitude," Ric says. "It can get hectic, but that’s what makes it exciting!"
Alongside his day-to-day responsibilities, Ric has also been focused on training and development, completing his Qualified Supervisor (QS), G39,18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) and MEWPs for Managers. He’s currently lined up for Authorised Person (AP), Crane Supervisor, and Slinger Signaller courses—a clear sign of his commitment to continuous learning.
Beyond Work – Music, Motorsports & More
Outside of work, Ric’s biggest passion is music. A DJ and electronic music producer, he spends time creating and mixing tracks—much to the delight of his colleague, Sales & Marketing Director, Matt Murray, who shares his enthusiasm for EDM!
He also enjoys graphic design, videography, and photography, always being keen to learn new creative skills. When it comes to sports, football is a staple of his weekends.
And like many of us, Ric admits to being a bit of a foodie—though he’s now trying to rein it in! "I love going out for food and a few beers, but being on the wrong side of 40, it’s starting to catch up with me!" he jokes.
We’re delighted to have Ric as part of the CU Phosco team, bringing his experience, enthusiasm, and team spirit to our Contract Services Division. If you see him out on-site or at an industry event, be sure to say hello—he’s always up for a chat about lighting, contracts, or even the latest EDM track!
