We are thrilled to announce our membership in the Zhaga Consortium, a global collaboration dedicated to revolutionising the lighting industry by setting smarter standards. Zhaga brings together luminaire manufacturers, LED module makers, suppliers, testing labs, and more to create a more efficient and user-friendly future for LED lighting.
About Zhaga
In 2010, Zhaga was born with a simple yet powerful mission: to standardise the interfaces of LED luminaires, including components like LED light engines, modules, arrays, holders, electronic control gear (LED drivers), connectors, and sensing/communication modules. The goal was to eliminate interface variations, promote industry collaboration, and simplify the LED era.
Much like the early days of the light bulb, Zhaga realised that having countless socket interfaces for LED components would be impractical. By creating well-defined standards, Zhaga streamlines manufacturing and benefits both manufacturers and consumers.
From interchangeability to interoperability
While Zhaga initially focused on interchangeability, it evolved to prioritise interoperability, ensuring all aspects of the interface work seamlessly together. This shift reflects the commitment to providing lighting solutions that exceed industry standards.
Zhaga Interface Specifications, known as Books, define the conditions for interoperability. These specifications enable manufacturers to focus on innovation while guaranteeing compatibility with other Zhaga-compliant components.
Zhaga and its members are actively developing new specifications, updating existing Books, and sharing best practices. The consortium is open to companies willing to contribute to Zhaga's vision and mission, promoting collaboration and innovation within the lighting industry.
A shared vision for the future
Zhaga envisions a world where standardisation leads to interchangeability between LED products from diverse manufacturers. This approach will provide consumers with confidence in their LED purchases, knowing they can easily replace and upgrade their lighting products while fostering innovation and competition within the industry.
Paul Carter, Technical Manager said: “At CU Phosco, developing and building affordable products that are built to last, and support our customers’ needs is at the forefront of everything that we produce. The Zhaga Consortium aims to standardise the products in the industry to make the supply chain more efficient, cost-effective and creating smarter standards for all. Our customers can then see greater cost and efficiency.”
