We’re sad to announce the retirement of Mike Woodworth. His last working day will be 18th December 2020. Mike has been an integral part of the CU Phosco family for 26 years.
Mike joined the team in 1994 as Technical Sales Manager, from a well-known sports lighting manufacturer and quickly moved on to manage the London and South East for 23 years. He later became a successful Business Development Manager working with our valued consultants and architects.
Mike's CU highlights:
- The roll-out of Heritage (P109KC) lanterns for Kensington and Chelsea in the early 2000s.
- Assisting in modifications to Cosmopolis energy-saving lamps in the late 2000s.
- Instigated and worked on the project team to transform HID to LED within the Transport for London Network in 2010 -2015.
- Specialist "Speed check" camera system columns projects.
- Part of the coveted Sales Team of the Year Award at Lux Awards 2018.
- Development of the Living Pillar with Scotscape.
Mike comments, "As I look back, it's surprising just how many people I have worked with. I must say, I am looking forward to joining the likes of Gordon Dixon, John Walker, and Mike Goninan, who are now enjoying their retirement, as are Ron Evans and Cliff Richardson from the Export Division.
Over the years, the company has developed many innovative products, including special 'Architectural' columns, High Masts for Network Rail, and 'Art Deco' reproduction lanterns for London Underground, to name but a few. I remain proud of our ability to produce 'bespoke' lanterns in small quantities, which has helped set us apart from our competitors and has allowed us to build strong working relationships with our customers.'
In addition to this, our friendly, efficient Technical department, who has been a pleasure to work with, continues to give our customers a fantastic service by providing lighting designs and technical advice on a wide range of schemes, both large and small, throughout the world.
I have watched many things change in our factories over the years. The Ware lantern factory's extension and improvements to meet increasing demand and the addition of its large PV roof panel to provide most of the power required to run the factory while helping the environment by reducing CO2 emissions was great to witness. From the new showroom to serve the Northern client base to the CU Beijing' Joint Venture' High Mast factory to serve China's expanding market - It has been an honour to watch the company grow from success to success.
So, as I prepare to leave, I reflect with fond memories and look forward to sitting back and watching the company strengthen further and continue to grow as the next generation begins to take the reins. I am sure that they will find it as exciting and enjoyable as I have!"
Sales Director Matt Murray adds, "Hard work and commitment are worthy of admiration. We want to thank Mike for dedicating nearly three decades to CU Phosco and the many successes he has had along the way; he will be greatly missed and a hard act to follow. On behalf of everyone at CU Phosco, I wish Mike the best of luck and a long and happy retirement.”
