DELIVERING FIXED HEAD HIGH MASTS FOR CROATIA'S LANDMARK RIJEKA GATEWAY TERMINAL

Rijeka Gateway, a new APM Terminals development on Croatia's North Adriatic coast, is set to transform the region's logistics capabilities. As the largest investment in the Port of Rijeka's history, the terminal will serve as a primary access point for Croatia's hinterland markets, with a projected annual processing capacity of 1.05 million TEU.

ABB, the electrical contractor for the project, required high-performance, fixed-head masts to provide reliable lighting infrastructure for critical port operations. When an initial supplier's masts were deemed unsuitable, CU Phosco was awarded the contract to supply 18 x 35m fixed-head masts, ensuring the terminal's infrastructure met the highest standards.

SOLUTION

CU Phosco's fixed-head high mast solution was selected to meet the demanding requirements of the Rijeka Gateway terminal. The masts, adapted from CU Phosco's standard design, were tailored to suit the pre-installed foundation studs, ensuring a seamless fit within the site's existing infrastructure.

A key element of the contract was CU Phosco's hands-on approach to supporting ABB during the installation process. As part of the agreement, CU Phosco dispatched Export Manager Lee Sanderson to oversee the assembly and installation of the first two masts in the rail yard, supporting the client and the main contractor. This on-site presence provided additional reassurance and technical expertise, ensuring a smooth and efficient installation process.

Reflecting on the experience, Lee Sanderson commented:

By modifying the mast design to suit existing foundation studs, CU Phosco avoided costly delays and ensured a straightforward installation. The presence of CU Phosco's team on-site during assembly and installation provided added technical support, reinforcing confidence in the project.
